Fleet Inventory & Lifecycle

The cross-vendor device list: normalized fields, filters, staleness, last-seen truth, and the end-of-life rollup.

Scope

Fleet is the tenant’s cross-vendor device inventory: every device synced in from every integration, normalized onto one schema. This guide covers what the inventory holds, how to filter it, and how to read staleness and lifecycle state.

The normalized device record

Every device carries the same fields regardless of which vendor reported it:

Field Meaning
Serial The vendor device serial, unique within the account
Name, model, firmware As reported by the vendor
Product type Normalized device class, such as switch, access point, firewall, or router
Brand The vendor brand, so the list can badge and filter across vendors
Site Derived from the device’s confirmed network-to-site mapping, never stored separately
Lifecycle status Supported, approaching end of life, past end of life, or unknown

A device shows no site until its vendor network has been confirmed in the mapping review workflow. Device-to-site is a derived fact of network-to-site mapping, so it can never drift from it.

Filters that answer real questions

The fleet list filters by product type, lifecycle status, site, and sync status. The sync status filter is the operationally interesting one: it pulls up exactly what fell off the map across every vendor and integration in one view.

Active, stale, and last seen

  • A device the most recent successful sync observed is active.
  • A device that sync did not see is stale: it may have been decommissioned, unplugged, or moved to another vendor account.
  • Last seen is frozen at the last successful sighting for a stale device and updates again only when the device reappears.

Staleness is informational and filterable, never a delete. The device row and its history are retained.

Device health status and sync status are different facts. Read the active or stale badge to answer “is this device still on the map,” not the health value.

Lifecycle rollup

The inventory rolls device counts up by lifecycle bucket, so “how many devices are approaching end of life” is one look, not a spreadsheet exercise. The same lifecycle tiering feeds the refresh roadmap and the lifecycle scoring dimension, so those surfaces can never disagree about a device’s tier.
